Fun Ways to Study Spelling

  • Use play-doh or legos to build your words.

  • Write your spelling words on a white board, in sand or in shaving cream (you can use the shaving cream during bath time).

  • Use alphabet magnets to spell your words on the refrigerator or a cookie sheet.

  • Make flashcards.

  • Make-up your own songs with the spelling words.

  • Trace them on the back of your palm with your finger

  • Rainbow write them with crayons, markers or colored pencils

  •  Write all the consonants in blue and the vowels in red

  • Build them with toothpicks or Q-tips

  • Partner spell them with a parent, you say the first letter and they say the next letter and on and on…

  •  Jump rope and say one letter for each jump

  • Clap every time you say  a letter

  • Use alphabet blocks to spell them

* Please remind children of the rule they need to follow.  I want them to grasp the phonic rules, not just memorizing the list of words.
