Fun Ways to Study Spelling

-
Use play-doh or legos to build your words.
-
Write your spelling words on a white board, in sand or in shaving cream (you can use the shaving cream during bath time).
-
Use alphabet magnets to spell your words on the refrigerator or a cookie sheet.
-
Make flashcards.
-
Make-up your own songs with the spelling words.
-
Trace them on the back of your palm with your finger
-
Rainbow write them with crayons, markers or colored pencils
-
Write all the consonants in blue and the vowels in red
-
Build them with toothpicks or Q-tips
-
Partner spell them with a parent, you say the first letter and they say the next letter and on and on…
-
Jump rope and say one letter for each jump
-
Clap every time you say a letter
-
Use alphabet blocks to spell them
* Please remind children of the rule they need to follow. I want them to grasp the phonic rules, not just memorizing the list of words.
