Grade 3 Curriculum

Below is the curriculum we follow for third Grade at SBA.

Reading:
For Reading, we will have guided reading with whole class, practicing all vocabulary and comprehension skills.
We will also have small group literature circles for discussion, response writing, and projects.
Math:
Math will and begin with place value, addition and subtraction and move to addition and subtraction of larger numbers up to 100,000. We will introduce multiplication and division up to 1,000. We will complete units on geometry, time and money, fractions, probability, and measurement. All of these units will include word problems.
Language Arts:
In Language Arts we learn to write great paragraphs with many good sentences. We will practice this through our pen pal program with Birch Hill Terrace. The student will write letters and receive letters each month. There will be two visits to Birch Hill, and one to SBA.
In grammar we will use parts of speech to make sentences correct as well and have great details.
Science:
The Science curriculum consists of four hands on units:
Investigating Forces
Life Cycles, Traits, and Variations
Habitats and Changes
Weather and Climate
Students will learn to use the scientific method and take notes and record information learned.

Social Studies:
In Social Studies we will cover units on:
Geography
Land forms
Rivers of the world
The Vikings
The Native Americans
The original Colonies, and western expansion and exploration
North America and Canada
Ancient Rome
